News and History of the PNG Development Group from 2018
Herein lie news items and historical stuff primarily of interest to the
Portable Network Graphics Development Group itself. Feel free to poke
around even if you're not a member, though. Note that some of the links,
particularly the older ones, are broken; in some cases this is explained by
later entries. Other links (CompuServe, tcg.arl.mil) have fallen prey to
reorganizations or upgrades; should they ever reappear, the entries below
will be updated as needed.
Keep in mind that this is history here...
- current - see here
- 1 December 2018 - libpng 1.6.36
is released with cleanups, build fixes, and a couple of small optimizations
for ARM (png_do_expand_palette()) and Intel SSE2. It also
includes an updated license (identical terms to the zlib license), with the
old license appended in the manner of the Python Software Foundation License
version 2, and the list of contributing authors moved to a separate AUTHORS
file.
- 15 July 2018 - libpng 1.6.35 is
released with cleanups and small fixes, including corrected handling of
the bKGD chunk in sub-8-bit files (palette and grayscale) and a fixed
calculation of row_factor in png_check_chunk_length().
This is Cosmin's first official release, though he credited it to Glenn
since Glenn did much of the work in it.
- 20 June 2018 - Glenn Randers-Pehrson, who shepherded libpng
development for many, many years, requests a new maintainer; Cosmin
Truta volunteers, and in the absence of other candidates, assumes the
mantle. Big thanks to Glenn for his tireless work over the years, and
a similar thank-you to Cosmin for taking over!
