News and History of the PNG Development Group from 2023
Herein lie news items and historical stuff primarily of interest to the
Portable Network Graphics Development Group itself. Feel free to poke
around even if you're not a member, though. Note that some of the links,
particularly the older ones, are broken; in some cases this is explained by
later entries. Other links (CompuServe, tcg.arl.mil) have fallen prey to
reorganizations or upgrades; should they ever reappear, the entries below
will be updated as needed.
On the other hand, keep in mind that this is history here...updates
to older entries are really not a priority these days.
- current - see here
- 18 August 2023 - zlib 1.3 is
released without any K&R-style (i.e., ancient) function
definitions. (Support for them will be removed in the imminent C23
standard and already has been from the latest versions of Clang and
probably other compilers.) It also includes some fixes, etc., as noted
in its ChangeLog file.
(Also available here. Older
versions remain available for those stuck with pre-1989 compilers.)
- 21 June 2023 - libpng 1.6.40
is released with fixes for the handling of three chunks (eXIf, pCAL,
tRNS) and various fixes and improvements to the build scripts and docs.
